Installing Windows 7 into a vhd file
Did you know you could install Windows 7 or Windows Server 2008 R2 directly into a virtual hard disk (vhd file) and boot that system directly from the vhd?

If you have a spare machine - try this

Otherwise, try this  (dual boot)

The instructions are very similar, except for cleaning the hard drive and creating the BCD boot partition.

I have not tried the dual boot yet, but it is next on my list.

If you want to remove the new OS and restore boot manager using BCDEdit, check out "backspace" near the bottom of this link  http://tinyurl.com/qn4az7

Thanks for the posting, Jesse.  I tried the first link in your message tonight, and now have a working multi-boot computer.

I also found this link.  It is from a Microsoft insider who describes how you can use the multi-VHD technique with Hyper-V.
